GS (Sound format)

GS is ROLAND's extension of the GM format.

This ensures that midifiles are standardised in the sound of the instruments on GS-capable devices.

GS formats are, however, downward compatible, which means that a title in GS format can be played on all GM-capable devices. The GS parameters are usually ignored.
